So close yet so far
כל-כך קרוב אבל כל-כך רחוק
So close yet so far is an installation composed of six renovated hunting arrows, each fitted on a metallic foot made from composite parts of geometric compasses. Each foot sits atop a clock engine, which generates a repetitive, restricted movement in the arrows.
The arrows attempt to reach the marked targets on the wooden surfaces, but can’t. It looks as if they can really smell the goal at hand, at time resembling odd creatures faltering on one leg.
The tedious motions of the arrows that do not reach the target are the core of the work, referring to a routine of missing out, the frustration of being near something but not quite there.
The work was exhibited in the group show Oh No! Sigh..., Artspace Tel Aviv, 2020, curated by Yair Barak.
המיצב כל-כך קרוב אבל כל-כך רחוק מורכב משישה חצי ציד משופצים אשר לכול אחד מהם הותקנה רגל מחלקי מחוגה שונים. כל רגל מורכבת על מנגנון שעון ויוצרת תנועה מוגבלת וחזרתית של החץ.
החיצים מנסים להגיע למטרות המסומנות על משטח העץ אך אינם מצליחים. נראה כאילו הם ממש יכולים להריח את המטרה, ולעיתים נראים כמו יצורים מקרטעים על רגל אחת.
התנועה החזרתית ליד המטרה היא בבסיס העבודה המדברת על שגרה של החמצה, של להיות ליד.

Hanging Time

The sculptural installation Hanging time is composed of a various objects and a video piece, under the guise of an out-of-use piece of furniture. A rotating needle sits on one of its arms. Like time that never stops, this dial grooves its mark that accumulates, referring to periodicity and the erosion of matter. In conjunction with this movement, the video Palm depicts men and women observing their own hands in front of a timed light, above tray-like polyester sculptures, in which Orr’s hand is imprinted. Like an open book, they ask to render, read and learn the signs engraved in their hands. The time element, the circular motion and life lines in the installation intermingle with the nomadic spaces depicted in two drawings: a man and woman carrying their homes on their backs.
Palm
המיצב הפיסולי hanging time מורכב מחיבור אובייקטים שונים והקרנת וידיאו, ונדמה לרהיט מפורק בחדר שיצא מכלל שימוש. מחוגה הנעה במעגלים מונחת על אחת מזרועותיו, כמו זמן שאינו עוצר, היא חורצת את סימניה שהולכים ומצטברים ומצביעה על מחזוריות ושחיקת החומר. במקביל למסלול החריצה של המחוגה, מתמקדת עבודת הווידיאו Palm בנשים וגברים המתבוננים בכפות ידיהם המונחות על גבי מגשים מפוליאסטר, הנשטפים באור מתוזמן, בהם מוטבעת כף ידה של האמנית. כמו בספר פתוח, הם מבקשים להשתהות, לקרוא וללמוד את סימני הקווים החרוטים בהן. מדד הזמן, התנועה המעגלית, וקווי החיים שבמיצב משתלבים עם מרחבי הנדודים ברישומים של האדם והאישה המעמיסים את ביתם על גבם.
